Джон О'Донован: біографія

один з найбільших ірландських істориків, антикварів і знавців ірландської мови
Джон О'Донован народився в 1806 році в містечку Ататімор в графстві Кілкенні. Отримав освіту в Уотерфорде. Викладав ірландська мова і працював з кількома антикварами, вивчаючи архівні документи і фольклор. У серпні 1830 отримав роботу в картографічному управлінні Ірландії (Ordnance Survey Ireland) під керівництвом антиквара і художника Джорджа Петрі. Протягом 12 років О'Донован об'їздив багато областей Ірландії, збираючи фольклор, вивчаючи рукописи і встановлюючи походження різних географічних назв.
