Тіто Пуенте-старший: биография

У 2000 році Бібліотекою Конгресу Сполучених Штатів музикантові було присвоєно почесне звання «Жива легенда». На жаль, звання «живої легенди» Тіто Пуенте носив недовго: 31 травня 2000 року він помер у Нью-Йорку в результаті ускладнень, що виникли після операції на серці.

Популярність Тіто Пуенте в США була настільки велика, що він був навіть виведений в якості одного з героїв серіалу «Сімпсони» (Двочастинні епізод «Who Shot Mr. Burns?»). Одна з вулиць Гарлема носить ім'я Тіто Пуенте.
